Gale het so lekker gevoel toe sy al bonsend van die skool af by die deur ingekom het. Sy het haar skoene uitgeskop en na die yskas gegaan om 'n glas vars lemonade te kry.
“Sjoe! JY is in 'n goeie bui. Hoe het dit vandag gegaan?” het Ma gevra.
“Skool was nie so maklik vandag nie. Ons het regtig 'n moeilike wiskunde toets geskryf,” het Gale geantwoord.
“Wat het dan gemaak dat jy in so 'n bonsende bui is, Gale?”
“Wel, daar is 'n nuwe meisie wat in die bus ry. Ek het gesien sy sit heeltemal alleen en toe het ek langs haar gaan sit.”
“Jy weet,” het ma gesê, “dit was regtig mooi van jou om dit te doen.”
“Ja,” het Gale voortgegaan. “Sy het so hartseer en alleen gelyk, maar toe ek langs haar gaan sit het, het 'n groot glimlag oor haar gesig verskyn. Dit het my goed laat voel. Dit het na 'n klein dingetjie gelyk om te doen, maar ek weet hoe ek sou gevoel het as ek die nuwe meisie was. Ek sou nie graag alleen daar wou sit nie.”
Die volgende dag, het Haman gegaan om die Koning te spreek en toestemming te vra om Mórdegai te hang, heeltemal onbewus daarvan dat Mórdegai voorheen die Koning se lewe gered het.
Toe die Koning 'n gefluister in die buitenste hof hoor, het hy gevra, “Wie is daar?”
“Haman is hier,” het die dienaars geantwoord.
“Laat hom inkom,” het Koning Ahasvéros gesê.
Toe die Koning Haman sien, het hy onmiddellik gevra, “Haman, wat moet met die man gedoen word wat ek wil vereer?”
Haman het geglimlag en gedink, “Maar natuurlik, die enigste man van wie Koning Ahasvéros kan praat, is van MY!” Daarom het hy geantwoord, “Stuur die Koning se kleed, die KONING SE perd en die Koning se kroon na een van die Koning se EDELSTE prinse en laat hulle die man aantrek met u kleed, u kroon op sy kop plaas en hom deur die stad op u perd lei, en voor al die mense ROEP, ‘KYK HOE WORD HIERDIE MAN DEUR DIE KONING VEREER!’”
Toe het Koning Ahasvéros van pure plesier geglimlag. “GOED! EK HET GEWEET jy sal my kan help, Haman! Maak nou GOU! Neem hierdie mantel van my en kry my persoonlike perd. Neem ook my kroon en DOEN soos jy gesê het aan Mórdegai, die Jood, wat by my poort sit. Moenie nalaat om EEN ding te doen van alles wat jy gesê het nie!”
Dit was nie maklik nie, maar Haman het sy bes gedoen om nie te wys hoe geskok en KWAAD hy was nie. Dieselfde man wat hy wou hang, gaan nou deur die KONING vereer word — met al hierdie dinge wat HY SELF voorgestel het! Hoe BELAGLIK! Natuurlik kon Haman NIKS aan die saak doen nie, want Koning Ahasvéros het hom BEVEEL.
Omdat hy geen ander keuse gehad het nie, het Haman gedoen soos wat hy beveel is. Hy het teësinnig vir Mórdegai geklee in die Koning se mantel en kroon en hom deur die stad gelei op die Koning se persoonlike perd, terwyl hy uitgeroep het, “HIERDIE MAN WORD DEUR DIE KONING HOOG VEREER!”
Daarna het Mórdegai teruggekeer na sy pos by die poort en Haman het vinnig vol wanhoop huistoe gegaan. Hy het die storie vertel van hoe die Koning vir Mórdegai vereer het bo hom met sy eie voorstel en hy het bitterlik gehuil. Sy vrou en sy vriende kon niks doen om hom te troos nie.
Terwyl hulle nog gepraat het, het 'n paar van die Koning se boodskappers voor sy deur kom staan. “Ons moet Haman dadelik neem na die feesmaal wat Koningin Ester voorberei het.” Haman het haastig sy hare gekam en het nie gewaag om iemand te laat agterkom hoe hy werklik gevoel het nie.
Haman het die Koning by die paleis ontmoet en saam het hulle na die tweede feesmaal by Ester die Koningin gegaan.
“Wat is dit wat jy wil hê, my Koningin? Wat is jou versoek? Wat dit ook al is, ek sal dit vir jou gee, selfs al begeer jy die HELFTE van my koninkryk,” het die Koning herhaal toe almal tot ruste gekom het.
“As die Koning 'n welbehae in my het, versoek ek dat die Koning my lewe en die lewe van al die Jode sal red. Ons staar die dood in die gesig. Ek en my hele volk moet doogemaak word; almal van ons moet STERF.”
Koning Ahasvéros het BAIE kwaad geword. “Wie sou sit WAAG om jou of enigeen van jou familie skade te doen?”
Ester het reguit na Haman gekyk en gewys. “Hierdie bose HAMAN is ons vyand.”
Haman was so verteer deur jaloesie, dat hy probeer het om 'n hele volk te vernietig, net om een man uit te roei — Mórdegai die Jood!
Nou het Haman so wit soos 'n laken van vrees geword. Die Koning het van sy sitplek af opgestaan en uit die kamer GESTORM na die paleis se tuin.
Skaars het die Koning by die deur uitgegaan of Haman het vinnig sy sitplek verlaat en oorgegaan na Koningin Ester om desperaat vir sy lewe te pleit. Hy het geweet die Koning was gereed om hom dood te maak vir die boosheid wat hy beplan het om aan die Jode te doen.
Teen die tyd dat die Koning teruggekeer het, het Haman homself op die Koningin gewerp om vir barmhartigheid te smeek. Toe die Koning dit sien, het hy geskree en dienaars het aangehardloop gekom om Haman van die Koningin af weg te hou.
“Waarom word hy nie opgehang aan die galg wat hy vir Mórdegai gebou het nie?” het iemand voorgestel.
Die Koning het teen die tafel teruggeleun en geknik. “JA!” het hy met gesag gespreek. “HANG HOM DAARAAN OP!”
En dit is die hoe Haman gesterf het, want, op die ou end, het Haman se jaloesie hom sy LEWE gekos. Hy was gehang aan die galg wat hy vir MóRDEGAI gebou het. Vrede was herstel in die koninkryk. Ester en haar mense was veilig omdat Ester gewillig was om na die Koning te gaan, SELFS al kon dit haar LEWE gekos het.

1. Wat dink jy sou met Haman gebeur het as hy nie die Koning gehoorsaam het en Mórdegai deur die strate gelei en vereer het nie?
2. Toe Haman na sy huis teruggekeer en gekla het, watter raad sou sy vriende vir hom gegee het?
3. Wie het nie net sy lewe vir ons op die spel geplaas nie, maar dit geheel en al opgegee sodat ons kan lewe?
ONTHOU
Dit is altyd die beste om ander te behandel soos wat jy graag behandel wil word.
'N VERS OM TE LEER
“En soos julle wil hê dat die mense aan julle moet doen, so moet julle ook aan hulle doen”
(Lukas 6:31).
ALTERNATIEWE VERSE OM TE LEER:
“En elkeen wat onder julle eerste wil word, moet
julle dienskneg wees; net soos die Seun van die
mens nie gekom het om gedien te word nie, maar om
te dien en sy lewe te gee as 'n losprys vir
baie” (Matthéüs 20:27-28).
“Julle moet nie elkeen na sy eie belange omsien
nie, maar elkeen ook na die ander s'n. Want
hierdie gesindheid moet in julle wees wat ook in
Christus Jesus was” (Filippense 2:4-5).
PRAKTIESE TOEPASSING
Dink jy Haman was'n goeie of slegte leier?
Waarom?
Wat van Koningin Ester? Was sy 'n goeie of
slegte voorbeeld?
Dink jy jy sal 'n goeie leier wees? Miskien sou
jy liewer 'n volgeling wees? Sou jy 'n goeie
leier om te volg kan uitken?
[Na bespreking:] Goeie leiers dien ander en lei
met hulle voorbeelde. Koningin Ester was gewillig
om haar lewe op die spel te plaas vir haar volk.
Die beste leier ooit is Jesus Christus, wat jou so
liefgehad het dat Hy sy lewe gegee het sodat almal
wat in Hom glo, gered kan word. Sal jy Hom volg en
ander so liefhê soos Hy jou liefgehad het?
