“Catherine is SO mooi. Sy word altyd EERSTE gekies, maak nie saak WAARVOOR dit is nie! Ek is net so siek en sat daarvoor. Ek kan dit nie meer verdra nie. Waarom kies niemand MY ooit pleks van haar nie?” Vicky het op haar hakke omgedraai en met die trappe opgestrompel na haar kamer, terwyl sy amper gestruikel het oor die hond, wat 'n tjank gegee het en uit die pad uit geskarrel het.
Nadat sy haar laat afkoel het vir 'n paar minute, het Moeder met die trappe opgeklim en saggies aan die slaapkamerdeur geklop. “Gee jy om as ek vir 'n oomblikkie inkom?”
Toe sy Vicky se snikke hoor, het Ma die deurknop gedraai en stil ingegaan. Vicky het op die bed gelê en snik met haar kop diep in haar kussing gedruk.
“Vicky,” het Ma saggies gesê terwyl sy liefdevol 'n traan afvee, “Weet jy, jy is BAIE spesiaal vir my en Pa en vir jou Hemelse Vader. Vir my, is jy die heel mooiste meisie in die HELE wye wêreld.”
Ester het opgekyk na die Koning en effens geglimlag. Vir 'n paar minute het hy na haar gestaar en Ester het gewonder wat hy van haar gedink het. Sy het sy verweerde gesig bestudeer en gedink daar is geen manier hoe sy goed genoeg vir hom sou wees nie.
Skielik het 'n groot glimlag oor sy gesig uitgebreek. “Wat is jou naam?”
Ester het haar hoof gebuig en na die vloer gekyk. “Ester, my heer.”
“Ester,” het die koning herhaal. Sy het opgekyk na sy glimlaggende gesig en effens gebloos. “Kom hier.”
Ester het vir 'n oomblik geaarsel, toe opgestaan en stadig nader aan sy troon gestap. Hy het haar hand geneem en dit saggies gesoen.
“Ek het die mooiste van alle mooi gesien. Mooi van die hart en mooi van gestalte!” het hy uitgeroep.
Ester het in haarself geglimlag, maar het weer afgekyk na die vloer.
“Daar is geen rede om bang te wees nie. Ek is dalk 'n magtige Koning, maar ek BYT nie,” het die koning gesê, terwyl hy Ester fyn dopgehou het.
Sy het opgekyk na hom en toe na Hegai, wat in 'n hoekie gestaan en grinnik het. Sy het vir hom geglimlag, want sy het besef hy het amper dieselfde ding van die Koning gesê vroeër.
Koning Ahasvéros het haar blik gevolg en vir Hegai gewink om nader te kom.
“Hierdie vrou, Hegai, sal my Koningin wees. Jy het goed vir haar gesorg en haar skoonheid strek verder as al die ander s'n, van binne en van buite. Dankie.”
Hegai het geknik en gesê, “U is baie welkom, groot koning, ek is geëerd om vir u van diens te wees.”
Ahasvéros het toe 'n dienaar geroep om Koningin Vasti se ou kroon te bring. Hy het dit geneem en dit versigtig op Ester se kop gesit. “Jy, Ester, is nou my Koningin.”
Ester het vir hom geglimlag. “Dit is vir my 'n groot eer, my heer.”
“Net soos vir my,” het hy met 'n groot glimlag gesê. “Ek sal 'n feesmaal hou, 'n groot partytjie om my nuwe Koningin — Koningin Ester, te vereer!”
“Wat 'n pragtige geskenk!” het Ester uitgeroep toe die vierde prins sy geskenk aan haar oorhandig het. Sy het haar oë toegemaak toe sy haar in die bottel parfuum verlustig het. “Baie dankie!”
Die prins het geknik, gebuig en weggestap.
Ester het koninklik gevoel. Maar nou WAS sy regtig! Sy was 'n koninklike KONINGIN! Koning Ahasvéros het 'n groot fees ter ere van sy nuwe Koningin gehou en almal het vir hulle geskenke gebring en eer aan hulle betoon. Die hele partytjie was heerlik en Ester het WONDERLIK gevoel. Om 'n koningin te wees, was nie die helfte so sleg soos wat sy verwag het nie en Koning Ahasvéros was 'n wonderlike man. Miskien sou dinge op die ou end tog nie so sleg wees nie.
Mórdegai het gesug en teen die binnemure van die kasteel geleun. Hy het na Ester verlang, maar was bly om haar omtrent elke dag te sien. Maar dit was hartseer dat sy van haar eie man moes wegsteek dat sy 'n Jood was. Dit was net so GEVAARLIK, miskien nie as net die Koning geweet het nie, maar as ANDER dit sou uitvind.
Mórdegai het sy kop geskud. “Dit is nie goed om aan sulke dinge te DINK nie,” het hy gedink. “Alles sal goed gaan met Ester.”
Sagte stemme het hom uit sy diep gedagtes laat wakker skrik en hy het langs die muur af in die rigting van die poort beweeg.
“Volgende Vrydag sal die Koning buite gaan jag. Dan kan ons hom doodmaak,” het 'n diep stem gefluister. Mórdegai het na sy asem gesnak!
“Nee, daar is te veel mense,” het 'n ander stem gesê. “Dit is die beste om dit te doen wanneer hy slaap.”
Mórdegai het om die hoek geloer en die mans daar gesien staan. Sy oë het gerek toe hy Bigtan en Teres herken het. Hy het styf teen die muur gestaan en verder geluister.
“Wanneer kan ons dan van hom ontslae raak? Dit is die beste om dit so gou moontlik te doen, ingeval dit uitkom!”
“Ek weet. Ek weet. Maar ons moet versigtig wees om nie gevang te word nie. Miskien sal dit die beste wees om dit te doen wanneer hy slaap.”
“Ja, miskien sal dit. Wanneer sal ons dit doen?”
Mórdegai het nader geleun om die ander man se reaksie te hoor. Hy het nie gewaag om asem te haal nie.
“Môreaand,” het die ander man gefluister.
Mórdegai het sy oë toegemaak en toe vinnig deur die tuin in die rigting van Ester se kamers gehardloop.
DINK!
1. Hoekom het koning Ahasvéros Ester gekies as sy koningin?
2. Was Ester net mooi aan die BUITEKANT?
3. Mórdegai was op die regte plek op die regte tyd. Wat dink jy kon gebeur het as hy nie gehoor het hoe die mans saamsweer om die koning te maak nie?
4. Dink jy hy het dit geheim gehou?
ONTHOU
Jy is BAIE spesiaal vir God, net soos jy is.
'N VERS OM TE LEER
“Soos die Vader My liefgehad het, het Ek julle ook liefgehad…”
(Johannes 15:9a).
ALTERNATIEWE VERSE OM TE LEER:
“Skep vir my 'n rein hart, o God, en gee opnuut in
die binneste van my 'n vaste gees” (Psalm 51:12).
“Laat ons bly wees en ons verheug en aan Hom die
heerlikheid gee, want die bruilof van die Lam het
gekom en sy vrou het haar gereed gemaak. En aan
haar is gegee om bekleed te wees met rein en blink
fyn linne, want die fyn linne is die regverdige
dade van die heiliges” (Openbaring 19:7-8).
PRAKTIESE TOEPASSING
Hoe sou jy voel as jy voor 'n koning moes staan?
Dink jy jy sal 'n bietjie benoud wees? Wat sou jy
aantrek en wat sou jy sê?
Verbeel jou nou dat jy voor God staan. Hoe sou jy
voel? Sal jy nie ook op jou beste vir Hom wil lyk
nie? God sien nie net wat jy aan het nie, maar Hy
kyk ook diep in jou hart in. Sal jy nie ook goed
van binne wil lyk nie?
[Na bespreking:] God het jou reeds gekies om sy
geliefde te wees. Net soos Hegai vir Ester gehelp
het om op haar heel beste voor die koning te lyk,
het jy ook 'n hemelse Helper wat jou bystaan. Hy
smag daarna om te help om jou hart rein en goed
voor God te hou. Daardie baie spesiale persoon is
die Heilige Gees. Vra Hom om vir jou 'n goeie,
opregte hart te gee wat God bo alles lief het en
om jou te leer om ander lief te hê net soos jy
jouself liefhet.
Om meer te leer oor hoe om goed van binne te lyk,
kyk gerus na die stories oor die Vrug van die
Gees.
LAAT ONS BID

net soos ek is.
Leer my om ander lief te hê, net soos wat U my liefhet.
Help my om U lief te hê met my hele hart.
